First Attempts at Animation

Martin P Uppet.. movie star!
I know I said I'd be doing posts about my new iPad... but I've been too busy playing with it to write about it! The bottom line is - it's the best thing I've ever owned and if you locked me in a room for the rest of my life with one (and wifi) I'd be perfectly content. The only thing it doesn't do is make a cup of tea... although I'm sure there'll be 'an app for that' soon!

But what I will show you for now, is my first proper short film... it's only a minute long, but it's a start. I made it using my two new favourite apps - iMotion which turns the inbuilt camera into a stop-motion camera, and iMovie to add a soundtrack, effects and bring it all together.

Martin P Uppet is quite a character in our Wallasey Children's Library - he has lots of adventures with his best chum Suzanne and even has his own Facebook page. So I decided to film what happened to him while she was off...

  1. Hey that's brilliant. Much better than the "examples" on the iMotion web-site.

I saw the title of your post on Rog's blogroll and was curious. Well done. I've now downloaded iMotion and will "have a bash"

    1. Hello! Thanks for the comment. I haven't looked at their website, or even looked much at the instructions to be honest... I have used Windows movie maker a couple of times so just dived in... (I'm a 'when all else fails, read the instructions' kind of gal!). I found it quite intuitive (I was going to say 'surprisingly' intuitive but most things are on the iPad so I am not surprised any more!

  2. Brilliant! I've had (and loved) my iPad for several months, and couldn't begin to do that. I can't even insert a link with it. Well done!

    1. I bet you could... there are some things it's harder to do on the iPad (c/ref making a cup of tea) but some things are ridiculously easy, if (on this occasion) time consuming

  3. Well done Biro! I was desperate to have a crack with iMotion but my tawdry iPad 1 doesn't have a camera :-(
    I'm very jealous!

    1. No camera? I think it's time you were upgraded!... erm I mean time you upgraded, of course... *coughs*

  4. A neat little production, BB. You should be proud. When I finally manage to get an iPad, I'll give iMotion a whirl. I use iMovie quite a lot, but a combination of the two obviously produces fine results. But then it would...it's a Mac!

    1. It has so many possibilities - I'd like to do some nature stop motion (sun going down, shadows moving, flowers closing for the night...but (a)it doesn't seem to stop raining long enough to get out there and do it and (b) it would mean I couldn't use the iPad for hours on end! 8-(
