Claims to Fame

Me and Kenny (with Superlambanana ears)
I stumbled across the end of some sort of football match on Sunday, and who should I see but my old chum 'King' Kenny Dalgleish?

I may have shown this pic here before, but can't resist bringing it out again. It's the big yellow ears.

But this time I thought I'd add in a few other pics of me hobnobbing with more celebs.

Me wanting to be a millionaire, with
Chris Tarrant....
... and with another ex-member of the TISWAS team

Boo

Me and John Hegley sporting the giant
glasses I made for his visit... bit blurry

TV's Nick Knowles judged a poetry slam I did.
He gave me 70.  One less and it would have
been a whole different story!

So, spill the beans!
Have you rubbed shoulders (or other body parts) with anyone notable?

  1. Sadly, I don't think I'm destined for greatness or even to rub up against it.

    1. You know what they say... Some people are born great, some achieve greatness and some choose to live in the wilderness with greatness just down the road checking the map one more time!

  2. No claims here, but I remember more than one of these photos of yours--imagine that! Particularly the one of you and Hegley in the sporty glasses.

    1. I didn't think I'd put that one up because it was blurry. Note to self: must try harder!

  3. You never know who you're going to bump into on a University campus, so Ainsley Harriott, Robert Winston, Princess Anne, Peter Snow, John Inverdale, Tommy Walsh. I worked in an entertainment complex in the early 80s, and one of my duties was taking drinks orders to the performers' dressing rooms. So, I got to meet a lot of people, from Paul Weller to Bernadette Nolan. But my crowning moments were, nipping out to fetch honey and lemons for Ray Davies (poor guy had a heavy cold), and grabbing a female fan from the stage, just as she was about to throw her arms around Adam Ant. I think King Kenny's yellow ears puts this all in the shade, though.

    1. They're big ears, but not big enough to put you in the shade, M! You've certainly been around the block haven't you? I don't mean to sound like a celeb-spotter or a stalker or anything, but it is interesting to meet famous people in real life, isn't it?

    2. It always interesting, but sometimes disappointing. Particularly if someone you've admired for years, turns out to be a pain in the bum...or just plain dull. I sense that your encounters were happy ones. They are certainly happy pics, anyway.

  4. I can't compete, with Martin, but I have had tea with the Queen Mother (she ate half a tiny sandwich, and we shared the rest so as to ingest the royal toothmarks. I was young and particularly foolish at the time). Oh - and I met Jacqueline Dupre, and turned the pages for the pianist when Campoli (violinist, now long dead) was giving a recital.

    1. I was waiting for your Queen Mum story to end with... 'and that's how we both got herpes.

  5. Frances, I would have traded my chance 'encounters' for a meeting with Jacqueline du Pré.

  6. I was in Paperchase with Russell Howard. Well. When I say WITH. I mean, he was in Paperchase. And so was I.
